If you Google "business cards", UPrinting.com is one of the top ranked websites. Because of that, I decided to upload and order a custom-designed set of business cards from UPrinting.com to review the service.

The below review reveals my entire experience with the company, and is totally unbiased because I am in no way affiliated with UPrinting.com, nor was I given any preferential treatment during my order.

This review will have four sections: the order process, the pricing, the delivery time, and the card quality. Also, at the bottom of the page there is a comment section where you can leave a review or read other's comments.

The Order Process

On February 16th, 2011 I visited UPrinting.com to order my custom business card, shown below:

UPrinting.com offers tons of printed products including brochures, calendars, posters, magnets, and more. However, this review is going to focus solely on their business card selection. Uprinting offers two business card products - standard business cards and die-cut business cards.

The standard business cards are offered in USA standard 3.5" x 2" size, along with square and slim sizes. The die-cut business cards are offered in five custom shapes: leaf, circle, half-circle side, rounded single-corner, and rounder corner. I haven't found many other online printers who offer die-cut business cards in these unique shapes, so that option is definitely something to take a look at if you are going to order from Uprinting.com.

For this review I am going to be ordering standard sized business cards, as my previously created design was made for a 3.5" x 2" card. While uploading my files I noticed that UPrinting offers several choices of card stocks including 14 pt glossy, 14 pt matte, and 13 pt uncoated. I went with the glossy card stock, as my design has lots of color and should look good with a shiny finish.

The minimum order quantity was 250, which is a fairly high quantity for a minimum order, but the price for 250 two-sided cards was only $27.15, so it was fine. I uploaded my files with ease, and completed the upload/order in a matter of minutes. To view the process of ordering a custom business card, watch this screencast:

If you need any help at all during the order process, you can use the live chat feature or call the toll-free phone number to receive step-by-step assistance. I was able to complete my order without any issues, but if I had any problems I could have quickly called the support team and figured it out.

UPrinting.com File Requirements

The actual files I uploaded were made to the exact specs on the UPrinting.com website:

  • .TIF File Type
  • CMYK Color Mode
  • 3.75" x 2.25" Dimensions
  • 300 DPI Resolution

By using the file recommendations on the UPrinting website, I was able to upload both my front and back design without any assistance from customer support.

UPrinting.com Business Card Pricing

UPrinting has a wide range of prices depending on what sort of card you want and what quantity of cards you want. The cheapest card they offer is the front-only, 3.5" x 2" size, which costs $20 for 250 cards. More expensive options include the die-cut cards, which cost about $70 for 250 front-only cards. Backside printing is about $7 more for 250 cards. My order ended up totalling $27.15 for 250 front/back, 14 pt glossy business cards.

Once I completed my design and chose my quantity, I had to choose from the following shipping options. These shipping prices were customized for my zip code (central Pennsylvania).

UPrinting.com Shipping Pricing

I wasn't in any hurry, so I chose the 4 Day transit shipping option for $7.35, bringing my order total to $34.50 for 250 front/back business cards, shipped to my door.

Delivery Time

The "4 Day" shipping got the cards to my office in 12 days (8 business days) on February 28th. I wasn't in a huge rush to get the cards, but if I had needed them within 5 or 6 days, it wouldn't have happened. Below you can see pictures of the box and packaging:

UPrinting.com Box
The cards shipped in an oversize box that arrived undamaged.

UPrinting.com Open Box
There was some empty space in the box, but UPrinting added filler to make sure the cards didn't slide around.

Overall, the delivery time was below average, and the packaging was average. I wasn't that impressed.

The Card Quality

Although the delivery took too long, the card quality ended up being pretty good. My design was replicated exactly onto the business cards, and the card stock felt sturdy in my hand. Out of all the online printers I have reviewed, UPrinting was certainly towards the top for card quality. View all of the pictures below:

Here is the front of my card. The colors were good and the card had an excellent feel. Also, the design was replicated perfectly onto each card.

UPrinting.com Back of Card
The design on the back of my card also turned out great.

UPrinting.com Spread of Cards
Overall, the card quality was very good. I was more than happy with my business cards from UPrinting.

The Verdict

Although UPrinting's card quality was very good, I was a bit put off by their slow shipping time (12 total days instead of the 4 day shipping I paid for). Their grade was redeemed a bit by their fair price ($27.15 for 250 cards + shipping) and smooth order process, but as I mentioned before, if I had needed the cards in a hurry I would have been hung out to dry. If you aren't in any rush, I would certainly order from UPrinting, but if you are in a hurry, look elsewhere. My grade for UPrinting.com's business card service is a B.
